Shakespeare Scene Sudy Workshops; Europe,Spring 2015,

I developed this workshop in Melbourne in 2014 whilst teaching at the Australian Shakespeare company.

In this intensive workshop environment, actors are given tools to unpack character, text and language whilst focussing these skills in a practical sense on a scene from Shakespeare with which they will work with fellow actors. Explorations into Stanislavski techniques and basic Laban from beginners thru to experienced performers gives a solid starting point to engage the work and discovery of acting.

Tutor and coach Kevin Hopkins has been an actor in film, TV and theatre for 25 years and has worked as an ensemble member and director for the Australian Shakespeare Company in Melbourne for much of that time, he has been teaching acting for 10 years. As a working actor and director he understands the needs of the actor, and focuses on creating a supportive, safe environment in which actors can feel free to make mistakes, and take risks. Kevin has run and developed Shakespeare scene study series with the Australian Shakespeare company, and has run workshops in Czech Republic and throughout Australia. For more info go to  www.kevinhopkins.com.au

The workshop will explore text and character in detail, which will culminate in filming of material suitable for reels, and give English speaking actors an opportunity to engage in an intense exploration into their craft over 4, five hour sessions on consecutive days, (20 hours total)

Actors are paired and cast in a selected scene from a Shakespeare play, in preparation for the workshop, actors are expected to work with their scene partner to develop a basic idea for their scene, and have their lines down to begin the workshop.

Don't miss this workshop where actors will have a chance to practice a range of roles and to apply study and methodologies to develop or enhance technique and inspiration alike, and to celebrate artistic expression. And have fun and play, which is paramount.
